The Unity Music Festival
The annual music festival gives students a chance to perform and be adjudicated in a safe environment that encourages and rewards excellence. Prior to this year, the Unity Music Festival provided one outstanding performer scholarship trophy. As the number of performers in the disciplines of voice and piano increased, and these two disciplines evolved, one trophy was no longer sufficient. The festival presented our current trophy to the most outstanding piano student and, with some of the proceeds of the grant, had the Jimmie and Ethel Anderson Memorial Trophy and keeper created for the most outstanding voice student, which was presented for the first time this past year.
The Unity Music Festival Association also provided a workshop for area music students, in both vocal and piano disciplines. Ms. Deborah Buck of Saskatoon spent a day working with a dozen students on vocal solos, piano solos, and piano duets. It was a lovely opportunity for the students to receive feedback and encouragement in a relaxed, non-competitive setting.
